Twist'd

A tale of babkas, entrepreneurship, and a man on a quest for a stand mixer.
A look inside the babka
Selling babkas in the park
Babka made from scratch

It might seem a tad strange to find an Asian guy selling home-baked babkas in the park by the Hudson, but since COVID, I've been in love with making babkas and my friends and family have been in love with eating them as well.

I've made each loaf by hand, from scratch: enriching the dough with each tablespoon of butter, turning a blind eye to the amount of sugar that the recipe called for, and rolling and braiding the Nutella-filled dough until it looked like I got into a fist fight with a chocolate bar (call that a "bar fight").

Since I've always loved baking, my sister and I worked together to try something new and make some cash the good ol' fashioned way -- a bake sale! All with the objective being to earn enough for a swanky, new stand mixer, like the ones that the professionals have. To test how well the babkas could sell, we set up in the park with our first test batch. We sold out in just under an hour!

We've had to put a pause on our dough-making dough scheme for now, but it's good to know that babkas got my back.
